WHAT  IS  CYCLO CROSS ?

Cycling - Running - Weight Lifting

Cyclo Cross - a bike race over grassland over a number of laps,be it in parks, woods, fields, basically anywhere there is greenbelt. A race, dependant upon the age category of riders, can be between 30 to 60 minutes duration, and each lap normally taking  7 to 8 minutes to complete. The lap will consist of going over grass, tree roots, inclines to either cycle or climb up, man made obstacles to make the rider get off, pick the bike up and hop over, as well as downhill parts that will test the ability of the rider in balancing and  bike handling. The bike, very similar to a normal race bike, but with larger clearances between the wheels and the frame, on the off chance that during a muddy race the bike just happens to get slightly clogged up with mud. The gearing will be smaller ( Lower ),as it is very much a situation to pedal and not just brute strength , although sometimes that helps! The tyres will have a knobbly tread and slightly wider.
