Racing in the colours of the only English cycle club I ever belonged to Kenton RC at the Stevenage Cyclo Cross race,Autumn 1976 - my bike had been on show during the SKOL 6 track event at the Birds/Alisian area throughout the six days.Note the fact the none requirement of a crash hat that came a year later much to the displeasure of many a rider, the feeling being that cyclo cross being a sport carried out on grass there seemed very little liklihood of any head injuries or such, having said that of course there was an incident at Forty Hall - see my picture and text below.

Bought the above bike in the 70s - can`t say I was overjoyed by it, in point of fact I was rather saddened by the fact of it`s cheapness in the build and equipment. Couldn`t get use to the frame angles and basically the whole set up.

Forty Hall Enfield, North London-inside the grounds for the Wembley RC cyclo cross race organised by Johnny Morris again 1976. We always had to race across the stream until one day someone tried to go through it on the bike and came unstuck as his front wheel dug into the bed of the stream and went head over heels, subsequently no more river crossing-shame really!

My stay in France-Autumn/Winter 1977 in the Toulouse/Pyrenees area-probably the most healthy time of my life-sunshine coupled with good food and lots of cycling mileage..The above image shows what was required to take for a French Federation Cyclo Cross training weekend. My club in France thought it would be a good idea for me to go with some of the other riders. I had no idea what to expect and to be quite honest really didn`t teach me anything but hey you never know till you arrive.

Good old days The Daily Telegraph`s sponsorship of Cyclo Cross

Winter of 1980-almost the last time I was to put my leg over a bike for nine years(Work, marriage, kids). going over to the park for Cyclo Cross training.Eventually the bike as well as the jersey were sold plus all the other stuff- four other bikes, frames, wheels, clothing plus other odds and sods were all sold at Crouch End-North London. The only bits I kept-see picture below.

The Summer- nine years later, "Happy as Larry",too much stress at work needed to burn the aggrevation off, where else could I do it. Had bought the Teka jersey and shorts in Andorra over nine years previously but had been my favourite shirt with the addidas side stripes and badge, so I wasn`t about to sell these two items those years ago. As it was I had kept myself in shape so it all fitted. Unfortunately not long after this a car turned across my path whereupon totally destroying the bike that I had built and putting plenty of bruises on my body-but no broken bones-no idea how as I bounced on the bonnet, hit the windscreen and then hit both knees on the road. Took ages to get any money out of the driver`s insurers, even that was small. Below is the tale of the Horseshoe!!

Just incase someone thought there wasn`t anyone else around this is 1990 and my son wanting his photo taken with his Dad. This was the first design Horseshoe clothing I had made up with Horseshoe Coaches on the front and back as well as the side of the bib shorts.
The first time I wore the Horseshoe Jersey in a National Championship-this one at Sutton Coldfield,Midlands,2004 in the Over 50`s race.Slipped on a thermal under jersey for the race and baking hot in the process as I almost come to a standstill coming up the mound of mud! This jersey advertising Horseshoe Passenger Transport in the main.

I look how I felt, I was absolutely boiled and knackered. If I had known how hot it was going to get no way would I had worn so much! This was the National Over 50`s event 2005 at Abergaverny in Wales. It had rained excessively up to the event so by the time we had done a couple of laps the course was"nicely ploughed", whereupon you had to run quite a bit with the bike, which actually helped me as I originally came into Cyclo cross because it is a mixture of cycling and running.

2006 Sutton Coldfield again, over 50`s National Championship,"Upgraded" to the skinsuit and it makes life so much easier as long as you don`t break the zip! Snowed on the day and the hands suffered due to the cold through the race. Now advertsing Horseshoe Organisation ongoing.

Finish line, kinda snowing but really cold at the finish.
